Sidh ala eze
Sidh Ala Eze is an artist residency project that I collaborated on with Irish fine artist Kelly Ewing. It was commissioned by Un7t seven in collaboration with pxssy palace. Our work draws inspiration from cosmology, folklore, and spirituality, blending Irish, Ghanaian, and Igbo heritage. "Sidh" means other world, and "Ala Eze" means portal.
The project explores the Irish belief that when people pass away, they go to an ominous other world and continue to exist. Additionally, it incorporates the concept of "osshimiri," which are water spirits or deities that reside in the spiritual realm and sometimes use humans as a means to communicate with people. Some individuals have aligned spirits that allow them to see this realm and become enlightened.
In essence, Sidh Ala Eze serves as a creative portal to this other world, offering a journey for viewers to discover their fullest potential, inner peace, or destiny. Despite a tight schedule of only three weeks to create it and one week for exhibiting it, Kelly and I successfully brought this artistic exploration of cultural and spiritual themes to life.
